What is Maintenance?

The Maintenance department (Sometimes called "Buildings and Grounds") organizes and performs the maintenance and repair activities on the school buildings, surrounding grounds, physical properties, machinery, equipment, and other facilities.


Our Mission
The Maintenance Department’s mission is to serve the school by providing professional and effective facility maintenance and operation services to ensure an attractive and efficient physical plant that will provide students, teachers, staff, and visitors a safe and productive environment to learn, work, and enjoy recreational and cultural events.


Types of Maintenance Requests
Triage is the assignment of degrees of urgency to maintenance requests to decide the order of service. This is especially critical when experiencing a large number maintenance requests and having limited resources. Maintenance requests are broken down into three degrees of urgency - emergency, urgent, and routine.

Emergency Request
An emergency condition exists when there is an immediate threat to life or property such as a natural gas leak, a water line rupture, an activating smoke or carbon monoxide alarm, etc.

Urgent Request
An urgent condition exists when there is no immediate threat to life or property, but if the problem is not corrected in a timely manner it may become an emergency condition. Examples are a clogged sink, a clogged toilet, all stove burners not operating, refrigerator not cooling, etc.

Routine Request
A routine service order is any task which does not meet the definition of emergency or urgent. Examples are loose door knobs, loose screws or hinges, torn window screens, moving furniture, etc.

Facilities Reservations
The school offers a number of facilities (cafeteria, gym, meeting rooms, etc.) which can be reserved by the community. The Maintenance department does NOT schedule or manage facilities reservations.
